Rebecca Grant, MD

About Me: I am born and raised in a small town on the Ohio River, called Portsmouth, Ohio. After high school, I attended The Ohio State University and continued to reside in Columbus for medical school at OSUCOM and residency training in the Department of Family Medicine at Ohio State. I subsequently served as Associate Clinical Professor at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center's giving me the opportunity to teach residents and medical students. I simultaneously was able to hone my passion of caring for adolescents by working as adjunct faculty and lead physician for Nationwide Children's Hospital Primary Care Teen Clinic. I currently serve as an Associate Program Director of the Dublin Family Medicine Dream Team.  I love mentoring young learners to help them reach their personal and career goals.

Medical Interests: Adolescent Health, Women's Health, Contraception, Chronic disease management, Caring for underserved patients

Hobbies: I love to participate in group fitness classes, particularly Hip-Hop fitness.  I am a Quadruple Buckeye, so I love OSU football and tailgating. I also enjoy participating in community events with my local sorority chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. And I can't forget, I enjoy watching reality TV (don't judge me!)

Favorite Foods: Italian food, Popcorn (cheddar preferably) and carrot cake!

What do you love about your job? I love pouring into the next generation of physicians. It is gratifying to see the professional and personal growth over the course of residency and see our residents become well-rounded, compassion, competent physicians.

Fun Facts: I was a member of a singing group from my hometown, Portsmouth, Ohio during my teenage years called the Daughter of Freedom. We sang locally and all over the state of Ohio including the national anthem at a Cincinnati Reds game.

Kelly Miller, DO

Associate Program Director

About me: I grew up just outside of Lima, Ohio. I met my husband when we were in elementary school, and we have been married for 20 years. We have a 10-year-old son, who plays hockey and an ornery black lab named Biscuit. I attended the University of Dayton for undergrad and then attended Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. I did my Family Medicine Residency at La Grange Memorial Hospital in La Grange, IL where I served as Chief Resident during my PGY3 year. We moved from Chicago to Columbus after I completed my residency so we could be closer to both of our extended families. I started my career in an OhioHealth Primary Care practice in Grove City. I was there for just over 10 years, before I decided to join the Dublin Family Medicine Team. In my free time I travel around watching my son play hockey and spend time in my greenhouse or garden. I also enjoy trying new foods, cooking and reading.

Medical Interests: I enjoy the wide range of conditions and patients that family medicine offers. I specifically enjoy pediatrics, dermatology and practice management. I find it rewarding to help patients through their medical journey and I enjoy working through complex cases. I especially enjoy teaching residents the real-life practice management topics, that I wish I had gotten more of before I started in practice.

Why Dublin? The Dublin Methodist Family Medicine Residency offers a deeply personalized, innovation-driven, outpatient focused medical education. These objectives are backed by a resident first mentality, strong faculty mentorship, and strong community involvement. Our unique office everyday model, with daily outpatient clinic exposure, offers a level of patient continuity that is difficult to achieve in residency. This opportunity uniquely prepares residents for outpatient practice. Our program is ideal for those seeking autonomy, patient continuity, and well-rounded preparation for future outpatient family medicine leadership.

Jennifer Hetrick, MD

Assistant Program Director

About me: I grew up an hour north of Columbus in Marion, Ohio. I went to the University of Pennsylvania for undergrad and then attended Case Western for medical school. I then completed residency at University of Missouri School of Medicine, where I served as chief resident, and stayed on as faculty for five years. My most important job is being mom to my two teenagers daughters. I have had a variety of family medicine and urgent care jobs, and I am thrilled to settle in as faculty as part of the Dublin Dream Team, where I work with such great people and am able to practice lifestyle medicine. I also have a direct primary care practice in Worthington, Ohio.

Medical Interests: Lifestyle medicine, solving complex medical cases/medical mysteries, and caring for patients through all stages of life.

Hobbies: When I’m not taking care of business, I love doing anything that has to do with water and being outside. I love spending time with my kids and dogs, and also enjoy home improvement projects.

Favorite Foods: Anything gluten free and vegan. I love pad thai and ethnic foods.

What do you love about your job: The people! The residents, the faculty, the staff, the medical students, the patients, everyone.

Kostas Demertzis, MD

Assistant Program Director

About me: I moved to the U.S. from Greece 7 years ago from an island in the North Aegean Sea called Samos. I went to med school in the port city of Ancona, Italy. After med school, I returned to Greece, where I finished my Family Medicine residency, got married to my Greek American wife, and had three kids (our son, Niko, and twins, Philip and Veronica.) Professionally, I worked as an attending physician in the public health system, and I thought that my career was on-track. But life is unpredictable, and when the economic crisis hit, my wife and I decided to move to Ohio (“returning” for her, “immigrating” for me). It was a crazy idea that ended up well! I was lucky to be part of the beginning of the Dublin FM residency as part of its first class of residents, and lucky again (after completing a one-year fellowship in Quality and Safety at Riverside Hospital) to have the opportunity to serve as a faculty member in our residency, where I can work with people that I like and who share similar views about Family Medicine and medical education.

Medical Interests: Outpatient FM has always been my “thing.” Medical Education and Quality/Population Health were always in my DNA and became a reality when I started practicing in the U.S.

Hobbies: I like working out and running, and I have recently re-visited my first passion—basketball--because I have started playing with my kids! Let’s hope that I don’t end up with a broken ankle!

Favorite Foods: Any “good food” in general. On principle, I don’t have favorite foods because it would stop me from tasting other food!

What do you love about your job: I’m happy to do a job that I can bring my passion to. This position gives me the possibility to positively influence patients and learners, and Dublin provides the best environment to achieve that, and it’s exciting to be a part of a growing program.

Fun Facts: My kids call me “Dr. No” and the “Common Sense Guy”! I think any parent can relate with that!

Dorvan Byler, DO

Assistant Program Director and Director of Osteopathic Education

About me: I am from a small town near Akron/Canton in northeast Ohio. I went to Kent State University for undergrad, then moved to Columbus to attend Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine on the Dublin campus. After that, I went to residency here at DMH (Class of 2023) and have been a member of the Dream Team ever since!

I am married and have three-year-old twins, a boy and a girl. We have no pets, but lots of plants. My wife works as an artist and loves to garden. We love hiking and are trying to go to every metro park in Columbus this year - chance of success is low-moderate so far. Our family is actively involved in a small community church. I like to play video games and board games, especially table top role playing games. I have season tickets to the Columbus Crew and try to take my son to as many games as I can (he's there for the fireworks).

Medical Interests: My favorite part of medicine is helping patients realize why and how they want to improve their own health. I apply this approach to care in every domain of family medicine, but it is really relevant in some of my favorites: psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, eating disorder medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and underserved care. I'm fortunate to interact with all of these topics in my role on the team.

Tracks you support: Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment - I am the Director of Osteopathic Education, and I lead lectures, supervise some of the OMT clinics, and work with OMT residents to achieve their goals in this domain.
Psychotherapy Track - I co-lead this optional educational track with Jenni Cook, our behaviorist.
Wellness on Wheels - I co-lead our underserved medicine experience with Dr. Grant and Dr. Hetrick.
Eating Disorder Medicine - I coordinate referrals to our clinic from local eating disorder treatment therapists and lead our didactic education in this area.

Why Dublin? chose Dublin for residency because I loved the program's willingness to innovate. It always feels like new ideas are welcome, and everyone is actively interested in improving everything rather than keeping things the way they are without good reason. Throughout residency, I experienced the benefits of this approach, and I knew that the same attitude would make this a rewarding place to start my career in academic medicine. It was an easy choice. Almost everything I do here has been changed in some way since I have arrived, and because I played an active role in shaping my own job, I remain invested and excited to be a part of this team!

Amanda DiSabato, DO

Assistant Program Director

About me: I grew up in Lima, Ohio and went to Bowling Green State University for undergrad. I then completed medical school at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is where I met my husband. We both completed our residency training at OhioHealth in Columbus, Ohio before moving with our daughter and family dog to Blacksburg, Virginia. Here, I worked as a core faculty member at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. We moved back to Ohio to be closer to family, which has grown since returning, as we welcomed my son to our family this past year. I am blessed to be able to continue working in medical education as an Assistant Program Director here at Dublin Family Medicine!

Medical Interests: Women's health, pediatric care, osteopathic manipulation, academic medicine

Why Dublin? Dublin Family Medicine is a great program for individuals who are passionate. The faculty and residents here all have very unique career goals and different learning needs. We provide a great foundation in outpatient family medicine, while also encouraging and allowing for individual growth in areas in which our residents and faculty have interests. There are individuals with interests in academic medicine, osteopathy, lifestyle medicine, psychotherapy, etc. If you are someone who wants to be surrounded by a culture of family, community, and learning that is individualized to the residents' specific career goals, then this is a program that may be a great fit for you!

Tracks you support?
I currently support the academic medicine track which is being completed by four residents this academic year, as well as the osteopathic track.

If you weren't in medicine, what would you be doing? If I were not in medicine, I would likely have been a teacher (or possibly would have attempted a career in musical theatre)! I became a physician because I love to teach – I enjoy teaching my patients about their medical conditions and helping them have the autonomy to make informed decisions. I love teaching physicians and medical students the practical side of medicine. It gives me energy and a great sense of fulfillment to work with other people who are just as passionate as I am about education.

Jenni Cook, MSW, LISW-S

Matt Kunar,

DO, MBOE, FAAFP

Director of Medical Education

Things that bring me joy: My family (Jillian, Sophie, and Maxwell), teaching Family Medicine, exercising, eating out, movie night, watching the Buckeyes and the Cleveland teams win.

Two truths and a lie (no particular order): Jillian and I met in medical school at OUHCOM over 16 years ago and she is a hospitalist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I have attended ten Taylor Swift concerts on three different continents. I completed my residency in the Army and spent seven years on active duty.

Why you should consider training with us: When I was hired in 2015 to start the Dublin Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program, I had a vision. That vision was to prepare family medicine physicians for future practice in Ohio. Though the ACGME requires us to train you to be a “full spectrum” family practitioner, it is rare to see non-academic FM physicians practice “full spectrum” medicine in Ohio. I believe that it is important to know how to deliver a baby and how to attend to sick patients in the hospital, but it is just as important establishing a rapport with your patient panel and being available to see them every day. We pride ourselves in having an innovative and flexible curriculum that puts an emphasis on outpatient medicine and wellness. No matter what your interests are, we are confident that we can build a curriculum for you that will help you succeed as an outpatient family physician.
