OMT Clinic

The Dublin Methodist Family Medicine Residency Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy Clinic is an important part of our innovative approach to teaching residents who are interested in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).

What is Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment?

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, is a set of hands-on techniques used by osteopathic physicians (DOs) to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, a physician moves a patient’s muscles and joints using techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

At Dublin Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program, we train both our DO and MD residents to perform OMT. As part of their medical education, our physicians receive special training in the musculoskeletal system and OMT techniques with regular didactic and hands on learning experiences. This advanced training provides our residents with a keen understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one affects the others.

When appropriate, OMT can complement, and sometimes even replace, medications or surgery in the management of a broad spectrum of disease processes. In this way, OMT can add an important dimension to standard medical care. OMT is safe, natural, and has minimal potential side effects. Most insurances cover OMT when performed by a practicing physician.

How does the OMT clinic work?

The OMT clinic takes place in our office on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and is run by residents in our OMT track who are directly supervised by one of our attending physicians, Dr. Byler and Dr. Madachy. Residents in the track get to participate in the clinic 5-10 times per year, depending on how their schedules are arranged. The attending physicians provide real-time feedback and treatment tips as well as comprehensive assessments of each resident twice a year. We see patients of all ages for a multitude of conditions including musculoskeletal pain, migraine, concussion, torticollis/plagiocephaly, infant feeding difficulties, chronic constipation, and many more.

I’m an interested patient, how do I schedule?

There is no referral process required. Patients who are interested can self-schedule by calling 614-788-0588 and asking to schedule with the Dublin Methodist OMT clinic.
